Spare a thought for everyone working to keep us safe and mobile on the road this Christmas

23rd December 2025

ROAD SAFETY AND breakdown organisation GEM Motoring Assist wishes all drivers a very happy and safe Christmas holiday, and takes the opportunity to thank those who will be at work over the festive season to help keep us all safe.

GEM head of road safety James Luckhurst commented: “As the holiday season arrives, we think about winding down work – even just for a few short days – and spending time with family and friends.

“But for some, such as recovery operators, police officers, paramedics, firefighters, doctors and nurses, life doesn’t stop at Christmas and it’s very much business as usual.

For GEM’s award-winning breakdown recovery network it will also be business as usual, although GEM is keen to encourage drivers to take simple steps to minimise the risk of a vehicle malfunction. Key steps for a safe holiday journey are to ensure your car’s battery is in good shape, with oil and antifreeze levels correct, lights assessed and working, and tyres correctly inflated – with plenty of tread.

James Luckhurst concluded: ““We hope you won’t require breakdown recovery during the Christmas period, but you can rest assured that we’re available round the clock to offer assistance if you need us.

“From all of us here at GEM, we wish you a happy and safe Christmas, and we thank everyone who will be working on the road during the holiday season.”
