Skoda has announced the world debut, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on 19th July 2013, of the new, third generation Octavia vRS.
The new model is offered in saloon and estate form, and with a choice of two new engines, a 220 PS, 2.0 litre petrol motor, or a 184 PS, 2.0 litre diesel unit. These provide enhanced performance but at the same time give savings in exhaust emissions and fuel consumption (by up to 19 per cent, compared with the previous model). Helping to reduce emissions and optimise consumption are ‘Start-Stop’ and ‘Brake Energy Regeneration’ systems.
For the record, the petrol version (with six speed manual gearbox fitted; a DSG dual clutch transmission is also available) will scoot from standstill to 62 mph in just 6.8 seconds (diesel, 8.1 seconds), and the potential top speed is 154 mph (diesel, 144 mph).
The newcomers incorporate a host of up-to-the-minute technology, including an electronic differential lock, newly-developed multi-link rear suspension, and electro-mechanical ‘progressive steering’.
Special new light aluminium alloy wheels come as standard too.
The vRS retains the roomy interior and luggage space of the standard models, providing welcome practicality as well as being a true ‘driver’s car’.
First UK customer deliveries will commence in July this year.
