The Museum tells us:
Lakeland Motor Museum is launching a one off ‘Night at the Museum’ on Wednesday 21 October – celebrating Back to the Future Day and the museum’s iconic Delorean.
Featuring torchlit trails and atmospheric and inspired lighting, this is a unique opportunity to discover stories behind some of the museum’s star vehicles. Special lighting will illuminate the vehicles like never before, highlighting their contours and craftsmanship in a unique after dark experience.
As part of the evening’s entertainment, the DeLorean will be brought back to character via special film-inspired lighting effects, providing visitors with an opportunity to feel like they are on a movie set and creating photo opportunities to remember.
Brought to life and lit by the museum’s curator and staff, hear about the unique features and stories from the star vehicles.
The museum has an incredible collection featuring classic cars, motorbikes, pedal cars, bicycles and other motoring memorabilia. Amongst its star attractions is an elegant 1930’s SS Jaguar 100, and a 1960 MGA Roadster, once used by Lancashire Constabulary.
The museum has just one of four remaining Africars – a quirky looking bright yellow vehicle created to handle some of the world’s roughest terrains. Also in the collection is a 1936 Le Pou de Ciel (or Flying Flea), a vintage Vespa once owned by Princess Margaret and a vintage pedal car collection.
Motorcycles also play a key role in the museum, with an entire area dedicated to the Isle of Man TT, plus other rare and vintage bikes and even a collection of over 60 two-wheel pedal bicycles.
On site, but in a separate building, the collection includes a Campbell Bluebird exhibit, celebrating the racing careers of Sir Malcolm and Donald Campbell.
Open to adults and children, the evening event takes place from 5.30pm to 8pm. All visitors will be provided with a torch on arrival to help guide their way through the nighttime exhibits.
Enhancing the whole experience, the museum’s on-site restaurant, Cafe Ambio, will be open late serving a special two or three-course menu. Featuring a host of locally sourced ingredients, visitors can tuck into the likes of cauliflower and Cumbrian cheddar soup, Cartmel Valley smoked salmon, flat iron steak, butternut squash risotto and triple chocolate brownies!
Tickets to the museum cost £13.25 for adults and £7.90 for children, with ticket holders receiving 15% discount in the museum gift shop. The restaurant menu costs from £25 for two courses.
