Suzuki helps ‘Crisis at Christmas’ charity for the homeless

Suzuki supports Crisis at Christmas…

Crisis are the national charity for homeless people, formed in 1967 as an urgent response to the growing homelessness crisis and for the past four years the Suzuki Press Office has been very honoured to support their volunteer team. Crisis provide vital services and supplies to so many over the Christmas period, without whom, they would be left with no support and no help.

They have launched their annual appeal for donations of vehicles for Crisis at Christmas 2022, and following our loan of four vehicles in 2021, Suzuki is now providing five cars this festive period, two Vitara Full Hybrids and three S-Cross Full Hybrids.

In 2021, Crisis opened four hubs in London which opened from Christmas Eve until 28th December. The hubs offered hot food and meals, clothing and wellbeing packs, access to advice and support and, where possible, access to Covid and flu vaccinations for guests who are eligible and would like them. In order to keep guests and volunteers safe, the hubs were provided with a takeaway style service.

Providing Crisis with vehicles ensures their staff and volunteers can assist their guests with travel to and from residential centres, transport to important meetings such as healthcare and immigration and also to festive day trips. This provision was particularly important last year as many of the guests were unable to feel comfortable using public transport due to ongoing health conditions and the rapid spread of the Omicron variant.

This year as the cost-of-living soars, thousands of people are at risk of being forced on to the cold streets, into sofa surfing or temporary accommodation, as they struggle to make ends meet. Suzuki are proud to support Crisis again so they’re able to run this essential project.

Ian Richards, Head of Crisis at Christmas, said: “I would like to thank Suzuki for their loan of five outstanding vehicles, I’m so proud of the tenacity and perseverance of all our staff and our amazing 1,860 volunteers. I felt incredibly humbled to witness the sheer commitment of everyone involved in making this year’s Crisis at Christmas happen. And Suzuki is very much part of that. Every year I see people finally finding their feet and taking those all important first steps towards a fresh start and a life away from the trauma of homelessness. I know this is only possible because of the generosity of supporters, and every day I see the difference that kindness makes. A heartfelt thank you from me and my team for helping us to keep on providing this incredible service.”

If you would like to donate to Crisis this year and help change someones life, you can donate online and give the gift of a Crisis Christmas.
