Buckler’s Hard and the beautiful areas around the village are celebrated in this new exhibition,’Beaulieu River: In Focus’.

They tell us:

(All words and photographs from Beaulieu).

Known for its maritime history and picturesque landscapes, the 18th-century village of Buckler’s Hard (just down the road from, and closely linked with, Beaulieu, hence its inclusion on Wheels-Alive) has long inspired artists, photographers, and nature enthusiasts. Opening on 15th February, new exhibition, Beaulieu River: In Focus, will showcase a stunning collection of photographs submitted during previous Beaulieu River photo competitions.

With pieces hand-picked by Lord Montagu and Mary Montagu-Scott, the exhibition will present a variety of subjects, including serene riverside scenes, wildlife in their natural habitats, and atmospheric images of the river at sunrise and sunset. Located in the Shipyard Office, opposite the Master Builder’s House and overlooking the river, the exhibition will be free to enter and opens just in time for February half-term.

Previous winners of the competition that inspired the exhibition will be showcased, along with the winner of the 2024 competition, Oliver Crockett, who captured one of the resident seals of the Beaulieu River. If you’re an aspiring photographer, the 2025 photo competition is now open to both locals and visitors of the picturesque harbourside village of Buckler’s Hard. To learn more, visit: https://www.beaulieuriver.co.uk/photo-competition/.

Visitors can explore Buckler’s Hard for free and discover the historic village, which was recently featured in the BBC Two program Villages by the Sea with archaeologist Ben Robinson. The Buckler’s Hard Museum offers visitors insights into the village’s famous shipbuilding history and the stories of its residents through an exhibition on village life, the role of the area in WW2 and the river today. Open daily 10 – 4pm with admission fee to support the preservation of the village.

A parking charge applies for those arriving by car. For more information, please visit https://bucklershard.co.uk/ or call 01590 616203.
