National Motor Museum volunteer Peter Driver will soon set off on an around Nbritain motorcycle ride in aid of the charity ‘Mind’…

The National Motor Museum tells us:

(All words and photographs from Peter Driver/The National Motor Museum).

Peter Driver, a volunteer with the National Motor Museum workshop, will be heading off from Beaulieu on September 4th on an 800-mile ride around England to raise money for the mental health charity Mind.

A retired mechanical engineer, Peter has been volunteering in the Museum’s workshop for the last ten years, working on the maintenance and restoration of the vehicles in the Collection.

In his spare time Peter enjoys taking to the road on his BMW F700 GS motorbike and has always enjoyed the freedom that biking provides. He and his wife June have taken many touring holidays during their time together, including a trip from their home in Surrey to Southern Spain.

It was June’s idea for him to take on this challenge ride for Mind, knowing how much he still enjoys riding, and for a charity close to his heart having known of people suffering mental health problems.

Peter will set off from Beaulieu on Wednesday 4th September, being waved off by his family and colleagues from the National Motor Museum team. He will cover the 800 miles over 6 days, taking in other museums and places of interest enroute to Sheffield via the west of England and parts of Wales, and back via the eastern counties of Norfolk, Essex, Kent and Sussex arriving back at Beaulieu on Monday 9th September.

This will be his longest solo ride and at the age of 74 he knows it will be a physical challenge as well. Peter said “I’m really excited by the challenge; despite knowing it is going to be hard work I hope to raise as much money as I can.”

Supporters will be able to follow Peter’s progress during his ride on Beaulieu’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/nationalmotormuseum and can sponsor Peter via his fundraising page here: https://www.justgiving.com/page/peter-driver-1718124446250
