“Goldie’, the first book from National Motor Museum Publishing, shortlisted for prestigious award

4th October 2024

Published by the National Motor Museum, ‘Goldie’, by John Mayhead, has been shortlisted for the Royal Automobile Club Book of the Year…

The National Motor Museum tells us:

(Photograph and all words from the National Motor Museum).

“Goldie – The Amazing True Story of Alfred Goldie Gardner, the World’s Most Successful Speed- Record Driver” by John Mayhead was launched at Goodwood Revival in 2023. With a forward by The Duke of Richmond, Goldie tells the story of Goldie Gardner who overcame his war injury to become one of the most successful racing drivers and a prolific speed-record holder. Garnering excellent reviews from the motoring press and readers, Goldie contains new, previously unseen photographs – many from the National Motor Museum archives. Sussex-based author John Mayhead is one of the UK’s foremost classic car writers and commentators.

Now in their eleventh consecutive year, the Motoring Book of the Year Awards are considered the most prestigious accolades in automotive book publishing. The awards champion the best automotive books, authors, and publishers.

Senior Curator Sarah Wyatt says, “We are delighted that Goldie has been shortlisted for the award. John Mayhead’s meticulously researched book has been very well-received and showcases the wonderful archives of the National Motor Museum.”
