Fun at The British Museum this springtime half-term (2024)

25th April 2024

It’s shaping up to be an exciting time at the British Motor Museum this springtime half-term…

They tell us:

(Image and words from the British Motor Museum).

This Half-Term from 25 May to 2 June, children can discover patterns of all kinds in the collections at the British Motor Museum. From elegant detailing on a car’s bodywork to charming patterns in the upholstery, plenty of work goes into creating cars that look great! Children can meet colourful characters on a Family Tour, make their own pattern paper, and explore the Museum to find the fastest car.

The Character-Driven Family Tour will take place every day at 11.30 am. A range of costumed characters, from chauffeurs to racing drivers, will take families on an exciting, fun and engaging tour looking at shapes and colour in the collection. No two tours will be the same!

Make your own Pattern Paper runs daily until 3.30 pm. Children will love putting their creative skills to the test in this brand new craft activity! Using the collection as inspiration, younger visitors can create their own pattern paper using wood-carved stamps, and a range of washable paints. They can design a greetings card or wrapping paper and take their creation home!

Find the Fastest Car – Family Trail also runs every day. Children can search for the fastest car in each zone of the Museum, before crowning the ultimate speed champion from the Museum’s collection of over 400 cars.

Emma Rawlinson, Lifelong Learning Officer at the British Motor Museum, said, “Patterns are everywhere in the world of cars. Join us this May Half-Term to discover patterns of all kinds throughout our collection of historic British cars. Children can enjoy looking at shapes and colour among the exhibits, making their own pattern paper and finding the fastest car in the Museum!”

NOTE: All activities are included in Museum admission. There is no need to pre-book; just drop by the Family Activity station to find out what is going on and when! Activities are suitable for 4+ years unless otherwise specified. Museum entry is just £43 for a family in advance or £49 on the day, £16 for adults in advance or £19 on the day, £14 for concessions in advance or £17 on the day, £9 for children (5-16 years) in advance or £10 on the day and under 5s are FREE. There is also the option to Gift Aid or donate your entry fee and get an Annual Pass in return at no extra cost.

Our well-respected contributors live and breathe motor cars; aren’t we lucky?

Contributors to the site include talented, highly-respected people (so they tell me) on the hallowed membership list of the Guild of Motoring Writers, and from the similarly well thought-of Western Group of Motoring Writers.
