The winner of a dream tool kit, gifted to the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu by Draper Tools to support the restoration of the Sunbeam 1000hp Land Speed Record breaker, will use the toolkit in his community role with the RNLI.
Martin Horton is a volunteer trainee Helm with the RNLI at Burnham on Sea in Somerset and the kit will allow tools to be donated on to the lifeboat station for use by their mechanics.
Over the summer the National Motor Museum held a raffle to win a Draper tool kit worth £3000 with all proceeds going to the Sunbeam 1000hp restoration campaign. The campaign aims to raise £300,000 to restore the iconic vehicle and take it back to Daytona Beach in Florida for the 100th anniversary of its record-breaking run in 2027.
Martin was presented the toolkit at the Classic Motor Show at Birmingham’s NEC by Jon Murden, Chief Executive at the National Motor Museum and Nigel Whatley, Draper Tools Power Manager.
Jon Murden says, “It’s so satisfying to hear that the Draper Tools toolkit will not just be used by its winner personally but also to benefit the seaside community of Burnham on Sea. The raffle was very popular and we’re extremely thankful for the Draper Tools company and for all those that bought a raffle ticket for supporting the National Motor Museum.”
So successful has been the prize raffle that Draper Tools and the Museum are planning another raffle next year. In addition to taking part in the raffle it is also possible to support the campaign to restore the Sunbeam 1000hp by donating online: sunbeam-1000hp-restoration-campaign/
