Innovative artwork by a renowned automotive artist Richard Neergaard has gone on permanent display at the National Motor Museum. The artwork features the Sunbeam 1000hp Land Speed Record vehicle and has been donated to the Museum by Richard to support current efforts to restore the iconic car
Richard’s artwork is made with aluminium panels which are laser cut, bent at 30 degrees and anodised and positioned so that all touching pieces slant in different directions. The artwork of the 1927 1000hp Sunbeam car is then mounted on a high gloss black acrylic panel, which combines with its 3-dimensional nature creating a sense of fluidity and movement.
Andrea Bishop, Director of Collections and Engagement at the National Motor Museum, says, “We are particularly pleased to have had this donation of stunning artwork from Richard Neergaard. We are currently raising awareness, funds and support for the restoration of the Sunbeam 1000hp and we’re delighted to have the iconic vehicle reflected in this medium.”
Richard Neergaard says, “I’m extremely honoured to be able to help support the National Motor Museum in their tremendous work to keep motoring history alive for new generations and specifically to help in the Sunbeam’s restoration.”
Richard frequently exhibited at the Royal Automobile and has previously been part of the Club’s The Art of Motoring exhibition as part of London Motor Week.
He also has works in the Los Angeles Driving Museum, the Jaguar Heritage Trust museum, the British Motor Museum, the Haynes Museum, the Williams F1 museum, Alfa Romeo F1, McLaren F1, Haas F1 and Williams F1 headquarters and exhibited at Salon Prive at Blenheim Palace.
Richard studied art at University of the Arts London – Central Saint Martens, The Art Academy London and Otis Art School Los Angeles. He has had a successful career in innovative and creative marketing and was the inventor of the globally successful Finish PowerBall dishwasher tablet!
