Four ‘STEM’ career days are to take place this summer at The British Motor Museum…

They tell us:

(All words and images from The British Motor Museum).

The British Motor Museum is proud to host four special STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Careers days on 26 June,  27 June, 11 July and 12 July, featuring a range of interactive STEM-based activities for secondary school pupils in years 7 to 10.

26 & 27 June are for girls only, providing a safe space for girls to meet with industry professionals and inspirational women from the STEM workforce. Both days will begin with an exclusive keynote presentation and Q&A with Louise Reynolds, Director of Procurement at Aston Martin. Louise will share her story as a woman in STEM and her route into her senior role. On 26 June, students will have the chance to meet racing driver Eliza Seville, winner of Formula Woman 2022, to discover what it takes to be a successful woman in motorsport. On 27 June, students will meet Vicki Horrey, Senior Programme Manager for Special Projects at Aston Martin, for a peek behind the curtain at the development of the Aston Martin Valour.

Students will also enjoy an interactive women-in-motoring themed tour, put their engineering skills to the test alongside current apprentices and graduates from Aston Martin with interactive STEM challenges, take control of remote-controlled Jaguar D-types, learn to master Sphero coding ‘bots with the STEM Ambassadors from MoD Kineton and take on a motorsport wheel change challenge.

On 11 & 12 July, the STEM Careers Days are open to all secondary students in years 7 to 10. After an exclusive keynote presentation from Louise Reynolds, Director of Procurement at Aston Martin, students will also have the chance to meet Vicki Horrey, Senior Programme Manager for Special Projects at Aston Martin, for a peek behind the curtain at the development of the Aston Martin Valour. Students will enjoy a hands-on Museum tour to discover some of the inspirational people behind the vehicles in the collection and put their engineering skills to the test alongside current apprentices and graduates from Aston Martin with some interactive STEM challenges. They will also take control of remote-controlled Jaguar D-types and take on a fast-paced motorsport wheel change challenge.

Claire Broader from the Museum’s Learning and Engagement Team said, “We’re delighted to be once again hosting our STEM Careers Days, which were incredibly popular and successful last year. We hope these immersive and interactive learning days inspire and empower the engineers and scientists of the future!”

To continue their learning back at home or school, students will also receive a goody bag containing two STEM activities, including a salt-powered car kit to take away. The cost is just £12.50 per pupil for a full day at the Museum, running from 10am – 2pm. The Museum’s Travel Support Scheme, with the support of Arts Council England, is also available to help cover schools’ transport costs.
