Avoiding tyre problems in the summer heat

Caring for your tyres in the heat

The rise in temperature is a welcome change for many, signalling summer is here. But when a sudden heatwave follows a spell of cool weather, it can be a stark reminder that tyres are vulnerable to the conditions.

To help you maintain healthy tyres in the current heatwave and throughout summer, take a look at our top tips…

Check tyre pressures weekly

Generally, the advice is to carry out tyre pressure checks at least once a month, however it’s important to do this weekly in the heat. When the air inside the tyre heats up it expands, which can cause overinflation and lead to loss of grip, or even a blowout.

The best time to check your pressures is several hours after the car has been driven. If the tyres are hot from driving, they can display false readings.

Minimise sun exposure

The sun’s UV rays can make tyres vulnerable to drying out, causing cracks. Check the sidewalls regularly during a hot spell and park in the shade where possible to reduce exposure.

Take care not to overload the vehicle

if you’re embarking on any road trips or family staycations this summer, don’t put excessive strain on your tyres by overloading your vehicle. The hot weather coupled with sidewall flexing from a heavy load is a recipe for a blowout.

There’s a Davanti tyre on your doorstep

Not only are maintenance checks important, but having the right seasonal tyres for the conditions is crucial for optimum performance.

If you’re interested in finding out about our summer product range or you’d like further advice on driving in the heat, we have hundreds of approved stockists across the UK that are happy to help. To locate your nearest Davanti dealer, enter your postcode here
