Aston Martin DBX – orders can be placed from 18th August

Author/Source: Robin Roberts

26th July 2019

Orders for the Welsh built Aston Martin DBX SUV open next month at the globally important Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, California.

Robin Roberts reports…

The luxury car maker has received a steady stream of enquiries since it announced the car, which will be assembled at St Athan’s new car plant.

In fact, pre-production models have already been completed as part of the training process for hundreds of local people hired by the famous car brand.
AM has said St Athan will become their global centre of electric vehicle technology over the next few years and where the upcoming Lagonda will also be built to expand their models’ portfolio.

The news of the on-sale date of 18 August has been confirmed after AM said it was pushing ahead with a revised assembly plan for all its models to balance production and demand after a slowdown in global orders for the current models.

“DBX is on track with the new St Athan facility now commissioned and manufacturing the first preproduction cars. First orders will be taken at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, California, in August, with the global launch in December 2019 and start of production is Q2 2020, as planned”

Aston Martin, which has seen costs rise due to aggressive investment and Brexit provisions, said it now expects annual wholesale volumes to be between 6,300 to 6,500 vehicles, compared with an earlier forecast of 7,100 to 7,300 vehicles.

“We are disappointed that short-term wholesales have fallen short of our original expectations,” Chief Executive Andy Palmer said. “We are today taking decisive action to manage inventory and the Aston Martin Lagonda brands for the long-term.”
