Strong sales this year, despite the market conditions, means Wellhouse Leisure has had the confidence to invest £100,000 in new machinery to bring its furniture production in-house. It’s also going to start making and selling furniture kits to other converters and DIY self builders.
Wellhouse Leisure’s idea to import used base vehicles from Japan and install a new campervan conversion means it can offer some of the most affordable campervans on the market (from £22,000). It’s been importing and converting them for 23 years, but this year, sales of these models have spiked, maybe because of their low price or because they also comply with ULEZ/Clean Air Zones emissions standards.
- Wellhouse Leisure was awarded funding from its local authority towards cost of new machine
- Making its own furniture gives Wellhouse Leisure more production efficiency and flexibility
- Wellhouse Leisure will now offer furniture kits for other converters and DIY-builds for the Ford Transit Custom, Toyota Proace, VW T5/T6/T7, Vauxhall Vivaro, etc.
- Sales success thanks to mix of new Ford Transit Custom Misano 5 models and its great value conversions of used imported Nissan, Honda and Toyota models imported from Japan
A successful mix of new Ford Transit Custom campervans and its affordable conversions of used Nissan, Honda and Toyota vehicles imported from Japan has seen Wellhouse Leisure’s sales buck the recent downturn in the market that some manufacturers and dealers have experienced. This has given Wellhouse Leisure the confidence to invest £100,000 in new machinery so that it can now make all of its own furniture in-house rather than outsourcing it.
“As well as now being in total control of our furniture production, we also have the ability to supply the market with fully assembled, high quality furniture to other converters and self-builders,” said David Elliott, CEO and founder of Wellhouse Leisure.
Wellhouse Leisure has always specialised in producing campervans with high quality specifications and great value for money, and has been successfully converting used models from Japan for 23 years. This means it’s able to offer a unique mix of newly converted campervans starting from around £22,000 to over £75,000 for its brand new Ford Transit Custom Misano 5.
With the added bonus of being awarded some local authority funding towards the cost of its investment, the new machine will make Wellhouse Leisure’s production process more efficient and flexible.
David Elliott, commented: “Despite what many people are saying about a downturn in sales in the leisure vehicle market at the moment, Wellhouse Leisure has achieved strong sales so far in 2024. We believe this is because we’re able to offer an affordable mix of campervans, and feel it’s the right time to invest £100,000 in new machinery.”
“Over the last 23 years, we’ve been importing and converting used vehicles from Japan and have always found that customers love their (much lower) price with a new campervan conversion inside to use. More recently, we believe sales of these models has grown because they are also ULEZ/clean air zone compliant and can be used as an everyday vehicle, plus we’ve also added some new models and revamped the popular Toyota Alphard/Vellfire with an electric bed system,” David added.
