Suggestions for a trip around Britain in under a month…
If you’re looking to explore everything the UK has to offer, vehicle leasing company OSV have now produced a new infographic for the ultimate holiday road trip. From the heights of Snowdonia to the City of London, the joys of the Lake District and the world famous Loch Ness, there’s plenty of fun and excitement you can cram into 28 days.
Days 1 and 2
You really need to spend at least a couple of days in London to appreciate everything it has to offer and it’s a great place to start any road trip. Pay a visit to the Natural History Museum, get a bird’s eye view on the London Eye and check out all the local markets.
Day 3
Next, you’re in your car and heading for Salisbury because you can’t organise any trip that doesn’t take in the sites at Stonehenge. It’s a 3 and a half hour drive but well worth the visit. Don’t forget Salisbury Cathedral while you are there.
Day 4 and 5
Next, you need to take a little detour down to St Ives and Cornwall. The north coast is home to local surfers so you might want to visit Newquay and catch a few waves if that’s your thing. You’ll also want to taste some Cornish pasties while you’re there.
Day 6
Head back up through Cornwall and your next port of call is Bristol on the Severn River. If you love your art, you’ll find works by Banksy all over the city. There’s plenty to see and do for the day including a visit to the busy harbour area.
Day 7 and 8
If you want cities with stunning architecture then your next stop off points should be nearby Bath and then Oxford where the history simply oozes from every road and building.
Day 9
Time for a scenery change – head for the Cotswolds and a quintessentially British experience. The beautiful countryside and wee cottages make you feel like you’re in another world entirely.
Day 10, 11 and 12
Cardiff is a thriving metropolis with its own castle. Just a couple of hours away is the seaside resort of Tenby where they purport to sell the best fish and chips in the world. Next, you can head for the university town of Aberystwyth and visit the Devil’s Bridge. Three days should be enough to take in all the sites.
Day 13
No tour of Wales can omit a visit to Snowdonia. If you can manage it, the walk to the summit provides stunning views you’ll not forget in a hurry.
Day 14
A couple of hours drive along the coast brings you to Liverpool, home of the Beatles and a whole host of music culture. It’s a lively, friendly city that has undergone a radical transformation over the last decade.
Day 15 and 16
The Lake District is one of the most visited areas in the UK and there’s plenty to see and do. You can take a boat trip across Lake Windermere or get some exercise walking up Scafell Pike. Events running throughout the summer should add an extra dimension to your visit.
Day 17
It’s a two and half hour drive up to Scotland next and visiting Glasgow is a must. You might want to try the local dish haggis if you are feeling adventurous.
Day 18, 19 and 20
Next, it’s a trip to Fort William where you’ll find Ben Nevis a land of wild beauty. If you’re a fan of the film Highlander, the Isle of Skye should be on your list and you’ll need your camera to take pictures of Donan Castle. There’s also the Cullin Mountains and The Old Man of Storr to take in.
Day 21
Of course, no trip to Scotland would be complete without a visit to Loch Ness where you can enjoy a cruise or walk along the shores hoping to spot the mysterious Nessie.
Day 22
Heading back down the west coast, it’s a three-hour drive to Edinburgh where you really must visit the castle, shop along the Royal Mile and pop in to see the pandas at the local zoo.
Day 23
Newcastle is next and it’s a city with plenty of character and a lot to do. There’s the Tyne Bridge for a start and some brilliant nightlife, including hundreds of restaurants and bars. Don’t forget to swing by the Angel of the North before you leave.
Day 24 and 25
Two superb cities with plenty of culture are next on the road trip list: Durham and York. They’re the perfect locations for those who want to enjoy a bit of history.
Day 26 and 27
One of the most spectacular university towns in the world, Cambridge is a mix of high culture and youthful exuberance. Visit the Fitzwilliam Museum or go for a punt down the river before you head back to London for the end of your road trip.
Day 28
It’s just an hour drive to London where you can complete your road trip before you head back home. There’s just a little time to take in some more sites such as Madame Tussauds or the Tower of London.
