Photographic competition winner captures cheeky Beaulieu River resident

17th January 2025

WINNER – Beaulieu River Photo Competition; Oliver Crockett’s photograph.

Lord Montagu has selected Oliver Crockett’s shot (above) of a cheeky Beaulieu River seal as the winner of the 2024 photography competition…

(All words and photographs sent from the Beaulieu River Team).

Oliver’s photo was chosen by Lord Montagu to take the top spot and claim a £200 prize. His winning photo will also feature in the 2025 Beaulieu River Tide Times & Information booklet. Oliver’s additional entry was shortlisted as a runner-up alongside Jane Willoughby’s atmospheric sky, and Robert Abbott’s swan family in the mist.

The annual competition is open to all amateur photographers who are inspired to capture the unique quality of one of the few privately owned tidal rivers in Britain. It is open to locals as well as visitors to the picturesque harbourside village of Buckler’s Hard.

Lord Montagu will select the winner from the photographs submitted throughout the year, with the winning image featured in the 2026 Beaulieu River Tide Times & Information booklet. For previous winning entries, competition details, and terms and conditions, visit: https://www.beaulieuriver.co.uk/photo-competition/. The winner of the 2025 competition will be announced in January 2026.

Complementing this, Beaulieu River: In Focus, a free photographic exhibition, will debut at Buckler’s Hard Village on February 15th, 2025. Situated in the Shipyard Office, opposite the Master Builder’s House, the exhibition will showcase stunning photographs from past competitions, inviting visitors to experience the river’s beauty and wildlife through the eyes of talented photographers, including mooring holders and visiting sailors.

About the Beaulieu River

At the gateway to the New Forest National Park, the Beaulieu River provides habitats for more than 200 species of birdlife. The custodianship of the Montagu family for over four centuries has kept it special, yet it is only a short sail from the yachting hub of Cowes.

The marina boatsheds are currently undergoing a major redevelopment to enhance the experience for visitors. As part of this transformation, they will be offering upgraded facilities, including a new marina shop, undercover storage, and a variety of events throughout the year. Visitors are encouraged to stay connected for updates on their progress and announcements.
