Beaulieu tells us:
(Photograph and all words from Beaulieu).
Beaulieu is excited to announce a brand-new TV series coming to Rewind TV this summer, showcasing its newest attraction We Had One of Those.
Hosted by TV presenter and radio DJ Alex Dyke, the programme shares its name with the newest attraction and takes viewers inside this brand new, permanent, and interactive exhibition, featuring some of the most iconic cars from the 1960s right through to the 2000s and beyond.
The initial 10-part series features episodes, each 10 minutes long, focusing on a specific vehicle from the exhibition. Together, the episodes follow the evolution of motoring from the early 1960s to the most iconic cars of the 2000s and focuses on the cars that once filled driveways, handled the daily school run, and were packed to the roof with suitcases for UK family holidays and weekend getaways.
Along the way, Alex gets behind the wheel, speaks with curators from the National Motor Museum who helped bring the exhibition to life, and shares fascinating archive footage from the museum’s Film, Video and Library Collection, which will transport viewers back to a time of yesteryear with the sights and sounds of the past. He also visits Vintage Tyres, located at Beaulieu, who offer expert advice on the types of tyres best suited for running classic cars today.
The first episode will air on Rewind TV (Freeview Channel 81) at 6pm on Saturday 9th August. It will focus on a 1965 Hillman Super Minx Mk3, recently restored by students takingpart in MechaniX, a programme that gives young people the chance to learn practical skills in a hands-on environment.
Other vehicles featured in the series include a 1960s Morris Minor 1000, one of Britain’smost popular family cars, and the ever-charming Volkswagen Beetle. The 1970s are represented by the Austin Allegro, known for its distinctive styling and place in British motoring history, and the Vauxhall Cavalier, a dependable saloon that became a mainstay on UK roads.
Moving into the 1980s, viewers will see the sporty Ford Capri. With its long bonnet, fastback styling, and sporty appeal, the Capri offered the thrill of a performance car at an accessible price. The 1990s bring the Ford Mondeo and the Nissan Micra, both hugely successful models that defined the decade’s practical, everyday motoring. From the 2000s, the series features an MG ZS, a performance-inspired family car with a racing pedigree, and the futuristic Renault Avantime.
Each episode dives into the story behind these cars, why they mattered, who drove them, and how they helped shape the way we travel today.
