The National Motor Museum exhibition Racing Pride: Celebrating the LGBTQ+ Community in Motorsport has won the category of ‘Celebrating LGBTQ Sporting Heritage’ at the Sporting Heritage 2025 Awards.
The Awards aim to recognise a breadth of activity taking place across the heritage sector, platforming voices which have been previously unheard, celebrating the breadth of sporting heritage which exists across the UK.
The awards were presented at the world-famous Headingley Stadium in Leeds on 13 November 2025. Director of Collections, Andrea Bishop and Senior Curator, Sarah Wyatt were there to accept the award along with Richard Morris of Racing Pride who worked closely with the Museum to put together the exhibition.
Racing Pride: Celebrating the LGBTQ+ Community in Motorsport set out to shine a light on the unique personal journeys of LGBTQ+ individuals across motorsport disciplines, from early trailblazers such as Roberta Cowell to heroes and role-models who are racing today. It highlighted the crucial role of vocal, visible allies in creating a sport for everyone. It also included the story of Racing Pride – the world-leading movement launched in 2019 which is championing LGBTQ+ inclusion through motorsport internationally from grassroots to Formula One. The National Motor Museum also wanted to inspire all LGBTQ+ people who visited to feel that they were valid, valued, and belonged both in motorsport and the Museum.
