National Motor Museum hosted Shell Heritage Art Collection goes out on the road

12th June 2023

The Shell Heritage Art Collection goes on display in Portsmouth…

The National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, tells us:

(All words and photographs from The National Motor Museum).

The Shell Heritage Art Collection, hosted by the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, has gone out on the road, and is exhibiting its wonderful commercial artwork collection at Cascades Shopping Centre in Portsmouth.

The Shell Heritage Art Collection is one of the most important collections of 20th Century British commercial art and features the work of well-known modern British artists. The collection comprises over 7,000 items including posters, press advertisements, paintings, and illustrations, and has been housed at Beaulieu for thirty years.

The brand-new exhibition “That’s Shell – That Was!” will be on display until October 2023 and showcases a selection of 20th century posters and memorabilia from the collection.

Charlotte Marchant, Shell Art Collection Manager says, “It’s marvellous that we can share our collection in untraditional venues allowing passers-by to stop and discover the history of the Shell Heritage Art Collection. Our artwork is on show in a permanent gallery at the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, but it’s wonderful to see the collection reaching new audiences at Cascades throughout the summer.”

Posters from the Shell Heritage Art Collection can be viewed on-line at shell-heritage-art-collection/
