British Motor Museum shortlisted in the Royal Automobile Club Historic Awards 2023

24th October 2023

The British Motor Museum has been selected as one of the three finalists in the Collection category in this year’s Royal Automobile Club’s Historic Awards.

They tell us:

The annual Awards recognise outstanding achievements within the British historic motoring and motorsport world. The judges had an impressive and diverse list of candidates across all 8 categories to scrutinise and will announce the results at a glittering awards ceremony on 23 November at the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall.

The Museum was shortlisted for a number of reasons, namely celebrating its 30th anniversary with an exciting and thought-provoking exhibition, Transitions: the Impact of Innovation, which looked both back and forward to cover the changing face of car design and motoring. There were special displays and talks around the work the Museum has undertaken going back over three decades, as well as a timeline of 100 MGs to celebrate its centenary, a host of single-marque events and an Auto Art gallery.

Stephen Laing, Head of Collections at the British Motor Museum said “We are delighted to be shortlisted as a finalist in the Collections category, especially in our 30th year, which is a great testimony and recognition of the hard work the entire team undertakes. In 1993, the British Motor Museum opened its doors for the very first time. A charity from the start, public support has helped the Museum collect, conserve and share the collections to inspire this generation and the next. Since that first day, the collections have grown dramatically, and millions have passed through our doors to discover the history of the motor industry in Britain, through over 400 historic British vehicles and our amazing archives”.

Our well-respected contributors live and breathe motor cars; aren’t we lucky?

Contributors to the site include talented, highly-respected people (so they tell me) on the hallowed membership list of the Guild of Motoring Writers, and from the similarly well thought-of Western Group of Motoring Writers. In addition there are valued contributions from other knowledgeable and capable motoring writers who have something useful to say about all aspects of driving and running vehicles in the 21st Century.
