Bristol Classic Car Show

22nd April 2013

What a Show at Shepton Mallet!

Spotted in the car park at the Bristol Classic Car Show, and sandwiched between a very smart early Vauxhall Cavalier and a pristine Jowett Jupiter, was a lovely Rover P4 110.
Visitors to the indoor halls at the Bristol Classic Car Show were treated to wonderful line-ups of classics of all types. This shot show the main hall.
Body panels, chromework, lamps, mechanical components, you name it… The autojumble section of the Bristol Classic Car Show had much on offer to help classic enthusiasts. Of particular note on this stall, I noticed grilles for Ford Consul Mark I and Cortina Mark I models, plus wheel discs in excellent condition for older Rovers.

Enthusiasts attending the Footman James 34th Bristol Classic Car Show, held these days at the Bath and West Showground, Shepton Mallet, were treated to a wonderful display of approximately 200 classic cars and 65 owners’ clubs, plus a wide array of autojumble stands for those seeking components for their project vehicles. In addition, for those seeking ‘new’ vehicles to acquire, the auction put on by Charterhouse Auctioneers included everything from components to pristine vehicles to those requiring complete restoration.

Over both days of the event, held over the weekend of 20th and 21st April, sunshine encouraged those attending the show to arrive in their classic cars. This was particularly the case on the Sunday of the show, which was 2013’s  ‘Drive It Day’. This is an annual celebratory day, encouraging owners to use their classics, and was established by the always-enthusiastic late Tony Beadle, who sadly passed away at the start of 2012.

The Showground’s car park was brimming with classics of all ages and types, and it was a real pleasure for me to be there and drink in the atmosphere.

Those I spoke to all agreed that there was a real, optimistic buzz about the show. Attendance at events such as this is a great way of encouraging or re-kindling interest in a restoration project car, or to add to the enjoyment of owning and using a classic, and/or indeed simply to meet up with like-minded folk and chat!

Just brilliant!

Diary dates for future classic car events to be held at the Bath and West Showground:

  • Footman James Classic Vehicle Restoration Show, Saturday 2nd/Sunday 3rd November 2013.
  • Footman James Mini Show and Great Western Autojumble, Saturday 8th/Sunday 9th February 2014.
  • Footman James Bristol Classic Car Show, Saturday 14th/Sunday 15th June 2014.
